Solid mounting of solar installations onto flat roofs - a sense of security!Flat roofs offer enormous potential for solar installations onto industrial roofs. Approximately 70 million m² of flat roof surface with single-layer roofing membranes, were listed in 2008 / 2009 for Europe alone. The proportion of roof surface for Germany was considered to be approx. 25% - 30%, that is 17,5 - 21 million m2. A large part of this roof surface could be used to generate solar power if certain prerequisites were fulfilled. In addition to the willingness of the owner to fit the roof with the respective installation, questions regarding the soundness of the building structure as well as sufficient static reserves also have to be established. The investment volume for the installation of a photovoltaic system is high and it has to be ensured for 10 - 20 years that the installation is solidly fastened and that it guarantees durable waterproofing. EJOT, as a specialist for fasteners for solar installations, has developed a solid connection for flat roof and solar installation mounting with the EJOT Flat Roof Solar Fastening System: The base plate is fastened onto the load-bearing shell under the insulation material. Regardless if it is on a trapezoidal profile or a concrete construction, the installation is always completed with the suitable fastening elements. The base plate is always adapted to the substructure. For a trapezoidal profile for example, it rests completely on two crown corrugated profiles and securely transfers the loads onto this level. The insulation material and the sheeting are completely unloaded up to the top of the insulation due to the solid mounting system. This way the interplay between pressure and tensile load through weight and weather influences will not leave a lasting impression. The sealing of the opened sheeting is done through a combination of mechanical clamping, gluing and welding. The subsequently mounted adaptor then offers a flat support above the sheeting for fastening of the bespoke installation system. It should also be mentioned, that the EJOT Flat Roof Solar Fastening System is completely made of rust-proof materials and only applies low additional weight onto the flat roof. Only under this precondition is it possible to realise the mounting of solar installations even with statically critical projects.
